Go Red for women collaborates with team Ocean Hearts

Ocean Hearts logoAs Team Ocean Hearts (www.oceanhearts.org) trains to set a world record crossing the Pacific Ocean in a rowboat, they are proud to announce collaboration with the American Heart Association’s Go Red For Women in the effort to raise awareness about women’s heart health.

“Rowing across the Pacific as a two-woman team is a unique opportunity for us to turn up the volume on this important life saving conversation,“ says Pat Hines, Captain of the Team.  “We’re looking forward to Kicking off National Heart Month on February 1st 2016 in LA, with Go Red for Women.”

The Row: On June 6, 2016, Los Angeles based athletes and businesswomen Pat Hines & Liz Dycus will begin their epic row in The Great Pacific Race.  Ocean rowboats from around the world compete to cross the world’s largest ocean from Monterey, California to Hawaii.  The shortest route between the start and finish is 2,400 miles – no motor, no sails and they carry with them all their supplies, equipment and food.  Packed with renewable energy, the Team will purify their own water, getting electric energy from solar panels.  Food on board consists of freeze-dried meals, healthy snacks, dried fruit and nuts.

“We are honored to support Team OceanHearts and especially excited that they are bringing the message of heart health on their epic journey,” said Laura Baker, Business Development Director for the American Heart Association’s Go Red For Women campaign in Los Angeles.  “We are grateful to Pat and Liz for their commitment to empower women to take positive steps for their health.”

For Team OceanHearts, the goal is to set a world record as the fastest two-woman rowing team to cross the Pacific and to bring attention to Women’s Heart Health, an issue that is close to Pat Hines’ heart, who lost her mother to heart disease at the early age of 60.

Go Red For Women is a passionate social initiative designed to empower women to take charge of their heart and brain health by providing them with tools and resources to live longer, stronger, healthier lives.
